Loss can come in many forms. Whether a loved one or of a pet, there are many things that can cause a person to be thrown into emotional turmoil. This can be extremely devastating for a child especially if they have to cope with the loss of a pet that they have had for most of their lives. Consider that these are friends, protectors and confidants of these children. These kids have to go through so much as they watch their favorite dog grow up with them and do everything with them. It is so important to do all you can to help them to get through this emotional time.
A New Book
Much in the mold of Marley and Me, a new book has hit the shelves designed to help kids deal with the loss of a pet. This is based on how a woman helped her young daughters deal with the loss of their hound dog Sammy. The name of the book is Sammy in the Sky and is written by Pulitzer Prize winner Barbara Walsh. The biggest criticism of this book is that it is too realistic.
The defense for this is the fact there are no books that actually expose children to the reality of what will happen when a family has to deal with the loss of a loved one. The book also deals with how to move on and to share your emotions and feeling that you will be facing. This is a good read and tool to help any of those who are dealing with loss of this sort.
